Opening Day Parade

The Madison County Fair opened today. Hannah and Luke rode in the opening day parade on the Fiber Fair float. They rode with our Billy Goat, a cashmere goat from Pam Haendle's farm and a Babydoll Southdown ram lamb from Olde Homestead Farm, just over the hill from us. Hannah and Luke waved and smiled like pros as they travelled through Brookfield behind fire engines from many surrounding villages. Billy was amused by the whole business, and looked very comfortable on the float. As we left for the parade, I checked the thermometer on the milk room steps, in the shade, at 6:30 PM. It was 102 F, a record for summer heat on the four years I've been on this farm. Spectators still came out to cheer on the parade.
