News from New Jersey

Okay, I couldn't wait to share this news...the lady from Georgia who bought five bags from me three years ago visited my booth at the Garden State Sheep Breeders Festival and bought my gigantic Green Forest Mega-Tote. I couldn't believe it when Matt called to tell me. I mean, this bag is big. I used it to carry all the other bags around in. I don't know what gets into me. Every once in a while I just want to make a big bag. Maybe it's the enormity of the load I carry in this life as a farmer-teacher-wife. If the kitchen table is clear, if my sewing machine is working properly, if I have a nice sturdy tapestry that's easy to sew on with a lining to match, I just cut out a BIG bag. And look what happens - somebody buys it! Last year a psychologist bought my Super Mega Tote and sent me a picture of her grandson sitting INSIDE it. So cool! The lady from Georgia (those Southern women appreciate good workmanship) also bought three other bags, including my favorite smallish bright red bag with the Mary Engelbret paisley lining, and one of the spinning wheel mega totes. She told Matt that she hangs the bags on her bed posts with her knitting projects in them. Good idea! This lady works for Wachovia and is terrified of being laid off, she told Matt. He gave her a 20% discount on the four. I was a little put-off when I heard that, but I had already marked them up to "Rhinebeck" prices so I don't lose too much. I'm going to need every penny of it to buy hay again this winter. All that second cut lying cold and wet in the field across the road...let's not go there. I told him he better not yell at me for running the sewing machine at night while he's trying to watch TV. He said he probably would still complain, as he is a nasty, cranky bastard. Good self-analysis, I thought.

Hello,
This Saturday i was in Morrisville for my husband's college reunion. I asked one of the college guys about their agricultural programs. They have cows and horses, also chicken, but no sheep. The man said there was a large sheep farm just down the road.
Is that your farm, Maggie?
I will stop by next time! I had no idea how pretty the countryside is down there.
