What fun to have the little chickies to watch scurrying around the chicken room with their clucking mother. The cluck-cluck-cluck acts as a sound beacon to keep the chicks with her. She gives them scratching lessons and shows them how to keep away from the other hens who might be jealous of her babies and peck at them. Mom likes to hide in the corner behind a hay bale I have in the room for them to snack on. She sits on a feed sack and gathers the babies inside her feathers to keep warm at night. Somehow she knows just how long the chicks can stay outside in the air, and during the day she stops to call them into the feathers for warming. No light bulbs needed.
