Getting Crabby Around Here
Hannah won herself and Luke a hermit crab at the Madison County Fair. Luke is very concerned about his crab. Hannah is a little more laid back. After many phone calls and Googling, I discovered the only available hermit crab food is in a little shop called The Fish Bowl in Norwich, 25 miles away. To make Luke happy we made the trip. After all, there is air conditioning in my van! Luke loved the funky little shop, and found new shells, decorative stones and yes, hermit crab food. Omi doesn't have to come up with homemade hermit crab meals anymore. Funny, it seems to be chemically treated corn meal according to the label. Hannah bought some incense and it's burning in the very warm and sweaty apartment right now. After a stop at WM for Omi's thread, and a quick stop at La Maison Blanc for coffee and a goody and to show Luke where I get his Christmas and Easter cookies, we headed home. Now the crabs are together in an expanded and ultra-decorated environment. The humans are fed, luckily they didn't want anything that required major cooking, as the apartment is over 80 F. Luke asked for hardboiled eggs, four of them, which amazes me since he ate four scrambled eggs smothered with catsup for breakfast. All Hannah wanted was a bowl of fresh pineapple, and Matt sipped his smoothie. He's nursing a jaw that was scraped clean of all his teeth and stitched up for dentures. Just seeing the pain he's in makes me brush and floss my teeth very diligently. The pain pills are preventing him from doing any chores - luckily I have Hannah and Luke. My sheep seem to be taking the heat in stride. I haven't lost any rabbits, amazingly, and the chickens/ducks love the swarms of flies. The pigs know just how to keep cool in the dirt. We had a sprinkling of rain today but not enough to really make any difference. In a month hurricanes will be coming up the coast and will change this weather for the cooler. Fine with me and my sheep.
throw some spinach in the smoothie! Will not make it taste any different and so good for you! Also...makes it a pretty color - if a bit disconcerting.
ReplyDeleteSo will Omi get to look after the crab when the kids go home or is it flying back to CA with them?
